Day 7: Season 1, Episode 7 Autumn Mountain
Agh, I think I lost my way a bit with this one. At first I was feeling pretty good with the atmospheric mountains in the background but then I got too heavy-handed with the foreground and my impressionistic side just took over after that. Also, I HATE clouds. I cannot for the life of me get them right with the acrylics. Near the end of this one, my restraint went out the window and I just went HAM on the foreground. It ended up dark and a little crazier than I would’ve liked but I don’t know. Maybe I needed to relieve some stress but my brain went elsewhere with this one. Less restraint, but hey, it’s a Saturday so why not? I don’t think I like this one because I ended up falling back to my old habit of going a little nuts with my mark-making and heavy layers of paint.
UPDATE: I revisited this one after a little while of looking at it and I decided that my sky looked unfinished and the background needed to blend a bit more and gradually work towards the foreground. So I softened the horizon more and blended the sky and mountains a bit more with a white wash and some more white clouds. I also brightened up the foreground more and added more bushes & color into the trees. Much happier with this one!
