Day 2: Season 1, Episode 2 Mt. McKinley
Day 2! I spent a bit longer on this one and paused the video multiple times just to get lost in doing my own thing for a while. This one was challenging but I tried to really pay attention more with what I was doing with those acrylics and try to work with them from back to front (lighter values to darker values). I really spent a whole lot of time on the mountain range and used my fingers more this time to blend the paints quickly in the tiny areas. Since I knew I had to change my technique a bit with the acrylics, I started with a based background wash that went from dark at the top, lighter in the middle, and then back to blue again. I think it definitely helped structure my overall layout more. Also, my second attempt at trying to add a bit more depth. Near the end, I was getting impatient with all the layers of trees and bushes so it DOES look a bit more rushed near the bottom of the painting (I spent nearly like 2 hours on this one so I wanted to wrap it up quickly.)
Andddd VOILA! Here is my end result vs. Bob’s version:
Not too bad, right? Pretty happy with how this one came out (even though the damn clouds were kind of annoying).
