Day 1: A Walk In the Woods (Season 1, Episode 1)
Happy little trees, LET’S GOOOOOOO
Here we go. First day of my Tiny Bob Project challenge.
This is a little creative exercise for myself to get out of my head and get back into the joy and calmness that comes with creating something. For as long as I could remember, I absolutely loved creating things. Whether it’s painting, designing, sewing, or just doodling, I always felt that creative itch. I’m a freelancer, so on slow days, I start to feel unproductive when I’m not actively creating or working one some sort of project. One day, I decided to just pick up some of my son’s acrylic paints and started to play around. I almost forgot how much I loved the feeling of getting lost in the process of painting. I liked how the painting came out, but I started to feel the urge to master a new skill. So who do I turn to? BOB ROSS, of course.
I decided to make teeny tiny 5x5in canvas paintings for this. When I paint, I usually end up getting a bit chaotic with my texture (I love impressionistic style) so I feel like most of the time I need to reign it in. Bob gives me that calm energy that I need. How do you think I did? Vastly different styles, and I feel like I started to just veer off into my own little thing near the end, but I don’t hate it! I want to try to work on getting that similar kind of dimension that Bob gets with his landscapes so I’ll look a bit closer at his technique with future paintings. I’m working with acrylics so I had to adjust some things to make sure I could keep up with Bob working with oils (acrylics dry so friggin’ fast).
ANYWAYS if you’d like to try this one out as well, you can watch all of his videos for free here. Here’s also a link to this specific episode.
