Day 69: Season 6, Episode 7 Arctic Beauty
This one was a black canvas painting, so I did something a little bit different with my process. Before, I typically would just put a one-coat wash over the entire canvas, but this time actually coated the entire canvas with 2 coats of black paint…I don’t think I enjoyed working with that. If anything, I should have just coated it with 1 wash of black paint because it took a long time to fully dry so I could move onto the next step. Then, my mountain work was frustrating me for a while and I think they ended up looking flatter than I wanted. Because of the 2 coats of black paint, I had to keep layering the acrylic colors over and over again in order for the colors to finally pop out. It was tough and it took me twice as long to finish this one. Overall, I don’t think it looks bad and I think it turned out nicely, but this was for sure a lesson in what not to do with these dark paintings.
