Season 5 Recap
I thoroughly enjoyed Season 5. Mostly because I think I turned a corner with my overall progress. I’ve been finding myself being happier with how my paintings have ended up and I’ve been understanding the process of landscape painting a bit better than previous seasons.
Favorite Painting: Episode 6 Ocean Sunrise. Not only did I love the subject of this painting (hello, I love the beach!) but I absolutely love how this one turned out. The sunrise colors look so calming and the contrast silhouette of the dune came out just the way I wanted it to. I think the biggest improvement with this one is how I was able to create those wispy grasses within the dune silhouette. Prior to this season, there was no way I could keep a delicate hand like that.
Least Favorite Painting: Episode 8 Arizona Splendor. I think I wasn’t in the right headspace when I created that one so I really ended up not feeling happy. Looking back on it, I don’t think it looks THAT bad, but I know my mood tends to cloud my perception on things, especially when it comes to my creative work.
Best Lesson Learned: Episode 9 Anatomy of a Wave. I enjoyed that this one focused solely on creating the barrel of a wave instead of creating an entirely filled canvas. It was a simple lesson, but one that I really needed because I found myself getting frustrated when it came to making waves in the seascape episodes.
