Day 22: Season 2, Episode 11 Black Waterfall
I thought I would’ve loved doing this one, but I really struggled. The first challenge was trying to get the clouds to behave the way I wanted them to. I kept going over them multiple times but I could somehow never get them the way I imagined them. Then, came the building of the background, which I think I tried a bit too hard on not using too much white in order for it to give depth…it ended up feeling distant for sure, but instead of this looking magical it gives off more of a feeling of haunted or scary. I tried to fix the mood there by working a bit more to the front with some brighter colors, but it now just felt like this entire painting doesn’t know what it’s going for. Plus, my happy tree in the front there just looks like it’s weakly holding it together like a sad little afterthought. I don’t hate how the waterfall turned out, but overall I think this painting is lacking confidence.
