Day 11: Season 1, Episode 12 Snow Fall

Here is the last episode of the first season! I can’t believe I’ve done 12 paintings already! My husband gifted me some oil paints for Christmas so I think I will switch over to the oil paints in the 2nd season. I’ve just started getting used to the acrylics but I think it would be a nice change to learn the proper use of oil painting. Got to say, I’m really rekindling my love for painting and it’s nice to have a small challenge to look at things in a different way; to translate what I see onto a page. It’s such a nice escape and when I’m not painting, I find myself looking at nature, questioning to myself how I would paint a certain tree or a particular sunset. I keep observing how light hits objects and how that would work through painting.

ANYWAYS, with this one, it’s not my favorite but it was an exercise in restraint and figuring out how I would lay out the color onto the canvas. I wanted to incorporate more of my usual drama by adding some texture to the sky, but I feel like I lost my way a bit once I got towards the foreground. I don’t hate the mountains, but I think the trees could’ve used some work. I think this one is just lacking that vibrant color focal point I crave.
