Season 6 Recap

When I look at the full collection of this season, I see such a significant jump in improvement. It’s so much fun to see the progression each season with my skills! I was really happy with this season, even though at times I was hyper-focused on particular things.

Favorite Painting: Episode 5 Secluded Forest. I think this is my absolute favorite painting out of all the ones I’ve done thus far. This one has such great depth and when I can view this one from far away, it still makes a great impression. The limited color palette is powerful and I was really happy with how I handled all parts of this painting.

Least Favorite Painting: Episode 12 Marshlands. There was a lot happening in this one and I found myself getting a bit frustrated with trying to make particular elements stand out (like that tree on the righthand side). It was a bit messy for me on such a small scale so I felt a bit out of control.

Best Lesson Learned: Episode 11 Western Expanse. I know this one wasn’t the most interesting, but I think this was the one that helped me scale back on using a heavy hand with the paint when it came to establishing depth. On these tiny-scale paintings, it’s hard to keep control over the painting values. This one was a good exercise in restraint.
