Season 16 Recap

Season 16 threw everything at me and I painted all of it: A portrait, double canvas with a gold divider, a fairy tale forest, tropical seascape that finally got the wave right. Thirteen episodes and almost every one felt like a different challenge.

Favorite: Waterfall Wonder (E11) The waterfall drops right out of the frame and into a pool and the whole painting is just cool and powerful. No sky, no mountain, just water and forest and atmosphere.

Least Favorite: Contemplative Lady (E6) She has a certain energy…I'll leave it at that. Bob Ross brought in a guest teacher for this one and I think we were both out of our comfort zone. She looks like she knows it too.

Learned the Most From: Deep Woods (E7) Working with an almost entirely monochromatic palette taught me that color unity can do more heavy lifting. No cool tones, no big contrast, just amber and orange and golden brown all the way through.
