Season 3 Recap!

Season 3 was a polarizing one for me. Some of the painting sessions I absolutely loved and felt like I improved a lot, and then there were others where I would just lose my groove on things. Even though it felt like with some of these I was going backwards with my progress, I needed to realize that progress is not a linear straight line when it comes with painting.

Favorite Painting: Episode 2 Blue Moon. By far my most favorite painting I’ve done out of the 3 seasons so far. I think I do better when I have a limited color palette and I need to focus on just the form and values of the image. Plus, I just love the overall vibe of the piece because it’s the dead of winter and dreaming of the beach makes me feel a tiny bit better.

Least Favorite Painting: Episode 5 Distant Hills. You can probably tell that this one felt restrained and not natural whatsoever. I was fighting my instincts a lot with this one and I really hate how the hills look in the back. Plus, my sad little fuzz tree in the front just makes it look all pathetic from the back to the front. Not my strongest.

Painting I Learned The Most From: Episode 10 Campfire. This wasn’t my strongest one but I feel like I learned to back away from something that should just remain ugly. In a way, this one has taught me that sitting with discomfort is a form of beauty. This was a lesson in letting things just be–to stop trying to ‘fix’ everything that doesn’t SEEM correct. In painting, this was a big lesson and also a lesson when it came to viewing life in general.
