Season 7 Recap
I think with season 7, I’ve started to move past the fundamentals and began getting more comfortable painting in my own voice. When I compare these with season 6, my landscapes are much more wound-tight with the brush strokes. In season 7, I’ve gotten looser with my strokes. I’m starting to lean a bit more into balancing colors and using contrast for the drama where I want it.
Favorite Painting: Not sure I have one that I really loved this season, but if I’d have to choose, it would be Episode 7 Barn Sunset. The entire vibe of it really felt confident and I felt in control over all aspects of this painting. I don’t normally enjoy the winter scenes but I think this one is great because of the nice golden-hour look I was able to achieve and the placement of the light.
Least Favorite: Episode 10 Mountain Glory. I wasn’t a fan with the overall layout of this one from Bob’s original layout so it didn’t really thrill me when I painted it myself. A lot of it looks mushed together and the random tree in the middle just does nothing for me.
Painting I Learned The Most From: Episode 5 Portrait of Sally. Who is Sally? No clue, but it was a nice break to do a small portrait painting to change things up a bit. It also gave me that ‘ah-ha’ moment to make my paint strokes looser and to take more creative risks. Because of this painting, you can tell the rest of my paintings have started to get a bit more confident and expressive, which I love. I’ve gotten less in my head to look like Bob Ross’s style and started to think more for myself.
