Season 13 Recap
Gotta be honest here, this wasn’t my favorite season. I think I’ve gotten a bit more critical of myself with each session and I think sometimes I’ve been testing my limits on my skills — I even had some thoughts that I was regressing just because I would feel ‘meh’ after a couple of these sessions. When I see them all together, they don’t LOOK bad as a body of work, but I think my critical voice is now getting a bit louder this season. That being said, I think I do had some wins this season.
Favorite Painting: Episode 9 Emerald Waters. I think I really love this one because of the lush green palette and the fact that this one was so different than the others - there was no sky to deal with but a big background filled with trees. The depth in this one is A+. I feel calm and happy when I look at it and it is reminiscent of those Monet landscape paintings I love so much.
Least Favorite Painting: Episode 7 Peaceful Haven. Peaceful? Nope, not for me. I HATE how the evergreens turned out in this and the orange trees looked SO out of place. Then there’s that path in the foreground. WHAT is happening there? This one was a major NOPE for me.
Painting I Learned The Most From: Episode 5 Mountain View. For the 2 episodes, I had to switch over to a rectangular layout because it was all Michael’s had for me so I think for this one, I adjusted pretty well with it. The one before this, not so much, but I think Mountain View turned out quite nicely for that format, when I was mostly used to a 1:1 ratio canvas. It makes me wonder how I would do once I would go into a larger size with the canvases, but those 5×5in canvases have been getting into a bit of a groove for me.
