Season 15 Recap

I'll just say it: this was my favorite season so far. Something shifted in Season 15. The painting sessions felt less like following instructions and more like making decisions about color, mood, and what I actually wanted each painting to feel like. That’s a different kind of creative experience and I felt it almost every night.

Favorite Painting: Forest Dawn Oval (E10) That path leading through the dark trees toward the pink dawn light, I knew while I was painting it that something was working. The oval framed it perfectly and the whole thing just came together.

Least Favorite Painting: Deep Forest Lake (E12) The forest light was doing something interesting, but the whole painting reads flat to me. No real depth, nothing pulling the eye through. Sometimes a painting just doesn’t find itself.

Painting I Learned the Most From: Colors of Nature (E2) This is where I started really paying attention to my foregrounds. I’d gotten a note around in my head about foregrounds being where the viewer enters the painting and I started actually taking that seriously here. You can see it carry forward through the rest of the season.
